Modern phone cameras produce 3-8 MB photos - far more than needed for sharing. The two levers you have are compression (encoding the image more efficiently) and resolution (fewer pixels).
The Compress Image tool re-encodes your image to shrink the file while keeping the same dimensions. For JPG and WEBP this usually cuts the size by half or more with no visible difference at normal viewing size.
If the image is much larger than needed - say 4000px wide for a 1200px upload slot - use Resize Image to reduce the dimensions. Fewer pixels means a fundamentally smaller file.
Converting a PNG photo to JPG or WEBP can cut the size dramatically. Screenshots and graphics with transparency should stay PNG or move to WEBP.
